Tim Soar Menswear
London - Spring/Summer 2011
"Making my entrance with my usual flair..." Sinatra's "Send In The Clowns" was an apt accompaniment to another show bearing Tim Soar's unmistakeable aesthetic. His spring/summer 2011 collection was called "Mr Newton" after David Bowie's character in The Man Who Fell To Earth, landing as he did at the nexus between the Seventies and New Wave utilitarianism - what Soar described in his notes as "the essence of modern menswear". And like Bowie, there was an androgynous feel, interspersing women's looks with some pieces direct takes on the male versions - which themselves resembled dresses - as part of Soar's "She: Him" project. Tailoring met technical, including a denim life preserver and diving shoes, while cargo trousers and tailored stonewash jeans were slim and smart and jackets were belted with fabric. A cinch to please his supporters.
